The Conclusion to Prague Top Ten

1. SaSaZu. Lisa has found AI to be a way of finding things to do in a city that helps us stay off the beaten tourist tracks. The results of her search in Prague included a suggestion to visit Prague's Holešovice Market. Michelle has never met an open air market she didn't like, so we instantly put it on our list. It was north, across the river, from our apartment, so we decided to walk there one cold morning, all bundled up in our coats and hats and gloves.

Further research before leaving told us that Holešovice Market was originally the site of the slaughterhouse in Prague, chosen for its location because prevailing winds blew the smell away from the city, toward another city that was not Prague. During the communist era, the market became a place where people would go to try to find goods that were not in the city stores. After the end of the communist era, the market became a place for trade in contraband goods, especially from Vietnam, which apparently included things like brass knuckles and other kinds of illegal weapons. More recently, according to the internet, it had become a newly hip area with food trucks and indoor markets and good restaurants.

We arrived at a collection of buildings surrounded by cement that resembled a county fair site when the county fair had left town. There seemed to be no one else around. We did find one sad-looking indoor market only half-assembled and completely empty of people. There were signs for a food truck area but there were no food trucks in it. The only thing that seemed to be open and operating was a restaurant called SaSaZu. We went in and sat down and took off our hats and gloves and coats.

Up to this point, this entire post could serve as a lesson about why not to use AI to plan your vacation. But then we ordered the tasting menu which consisted of about 6 or 7 different dishes, every one of them beautiful and exquisite and delicious and unexpected. Halfway through we decided to order wine to go with it because we were all in. By the time dessert arrived--gelato inside a chocolate ball with gold leaf on top, spoons to eat said dessert nestled inside a cup of hot green tea so that when you cut into the chocolate the spoon sank right in and left a mild green tea taste to your spoonful – we were wowed. It was an unforgettable,  #1 dining experience!
