The last 2+ weeks have truly been, as the title of this blog promised, an adventure. Around every corner there has been something new or different or beautiful. Bologna has been such a great place to explore. And the food... it definitely lived up to the hype.
Still, it hasn't been all perfect... and there is nothing that makes me hate internet/social media content more than the illusion that the life of the person posting is grand/flawless/exceptional 100% of the time. So, to that end, here are my top three gripes about Italy.
Starting with #3 – They don't cut their pizza! There are pizzerias on just about every block. And it's quite common for a person to order a pizza and then be expected to eat the whole thing. Two people, two pizzas... you get the idea. They're about the size of a medium-sized pizza in the U.S. We really can't eat that much for most meals, so we'll order a pizza and a salad and then split them. When they bring your pizza, it's supper hot and yummy... and it's not cut. So, you have to battle with hot tomato sauce and cheese and other ingredients as you cut it in half to share and then in quarters so you can actually eat it.

c'mon now' Lisa--those aren't real problems...made me chuckle. just let that yummy pizza sauce and cheese drip down your arms and onto your clothes; wash the clothes that night and hang them on the bedpost to dry. be sure to wash that pizza down with real coca cola--forget the diet/zero stuff. remember us back home; we can almost taste that yummy pizza. Love you two and be safe. :)
ReplyDeleteAgree with the comment, come on you two, love those challenges!
ReplyDeleteI never gave a thought to them having no dryers. Even in Costa Rica we had a dryer to go along with the washer. Huh. No complaints about stairs, no lift? You two must have packed pretty light.
ReplyDeleteI think this is your chance to cut the Diet Coke out of your life! I remember them not cutting the pizzas when I was in Rome but I just ate the whole thing :). Darla doesn't have a dryer in Portugal either - I think that is a very common European thing. Thanks for sharing with us sisters. Love you both! Melissa
ReplyDeleteGood news! I found an Italian sugar-free cola that is a pretty good substitute for Diet Coke! Yes, aunt Marlene, I've leaned into the messy, and oh so delicious pizza! And... our apartment in Florence has a machine that is supposed to be a combo washer/dryer. We still hung up most of our clothes, but tried drying our socks and underwear. It only took 4 hours for them to get dry!
ReplyDeleteWhy are you drinking soda when you can be enjoying wine?!?! leah
ReplyDeleteNo worries, we are drinking plenty of wine! Check out our new post.
